She is member of the Board of the Ph.D. Program \u201cArchitecture. History and Project\u201d at the Politecnico di Torino, where she received a Ph.D. in History of Architecture and Urbanism in 2007. Her research interests focus on the processes of knowledge transfer in 20<sup>th<\/sup>-century architecture and urbanism; the history of housing cultures, policies, forms, theories, and practices during the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century; and the study of architectural periodicals. She has been awarded grants from the Graham Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies, and was Visiting Scholar at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (2011) and the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (2019). She was also Visiting Professor at Kyoto University. She is the author of <em>Europe meets America <\/em>(2016), and co-editor of <em>The Housing Project<\/em> (2020), <em>Post-War Middle-Class Housing <\/em>(2015) and <em>Storie di Case. Abitare l\u2019Italia del boom <\/em>(2013). Assistant editor of the international magazine <em>Casabella<\/em> from 1982 to 1996 under the direction of Vittorio Gregotti, he published many critical works on modern and contemporary architecture. From 1985 to 1993 he was a collaborator of Luigi Snozzi, first as an academic assistant at the EPFL, and later as an architect in the office of Locarno. Since 1995 he has worked as a professional architect in Brescia. Visiting Professor at Columbia University in 1994, in 1997 he won the position of Full Professor for Architecture at the Technical University of Graz, where he was the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture from 2001 to 2002. From 2002 to 2015 he has been Professor for Architectural and Urban Design and Director of the College of Architecture at the Politecnico di Torino. From 2015 to 2018 he has been Professor for Architecture and Head of the Department of Architecture at Xi\u2019an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He received his Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) from the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU Cottbus) with a thesis on design tools. He taught architectural and urban theory and design at Xi\u2019an Jiaotong-Liverpool, Virginia Tech, the Berlin University of the Arts, Hanover University, and the Brandenburg University of Technology. He is a Visiting Professor and was a Visiting Researcher at the Politecnico di Milano, was a Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong and Kassel University. He was a project architect in the office of \u00c1lvaro Siza and worked with architect Jos\u00e9 Paulo dos Santos, before setting up his own practice in Berlin. He serves on the advisory board of <em>flusserstudies.net<\/em>, co-edited the internet architectural theory magazine <em>cloud-cuckoo.net<\/em>, and has written for <em>Archithese<\/em>, <em>Bauwelt<\/em>, <em>S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung<\/em>, and <em>L\u2019Architecture d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui<\/em>, among others. <em>Tools for Ideas<\/em>, the main book on his research on architectural design theory, has been published in German, English and Chinese. He received a Ph.D. in History of Architecture and Urbanism from the Politecnico di Torino in 1997 and has been a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in 1995 and 2002 respectively. He has taught as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto (2002-2007) and at Boston University (2007-2015), and as an Associate Professor at Xi\u2019an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (2016-2019). Among his major publications are <em>Storia di un\u2019idea di architettura moderna. Henry-Russell Hitchcock e l\u2019International Style<\/em> (2001), <em>Olivetti Builds: Modern Architecture in Ivrea<\/em> (2001, with Patrizia Bonifazio), and <em>Building Transatlantic Italy: Architectural Dialogues with Postwar America<\/em> (2013). He earned a degree from the Alta Scuola Politecnica (Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino) and received a Ph.D. from IUAV and TU Delft as a Joint Doctorate (his theses on the \u201cThe Heart of the City\u201d was published by Routledge in 2018). After completing his doctoral studies, he has continued research activities with institutions such as the Canadian Centre for Architecture, TU Delft, KTH Stockholm, IIT-Chicago, and ETH-Zurich, and taught at TU Delft, UDEM, and IUAV. He has collaborated in urban design\/landscape projects and theoretical research with international firms such as CZA-Cino Zucchi Architetti, MECANOO architecten, and LAND. He was awarded the \u201cEurope 40 Under 40 Award,\u201d and was runner-up at Europan 11 in Leeuwarden.
